The Self-Service graphics project at VMware aims to enable authors to create better technical illustration drafts, which are aligned with company brand and toolchain standards.
Several use cases exist for authors of technical contents in VMware:
- As an author, you want to create graphics for use in technical content that comply with the VMware documentation standards
- As an author, whose team is new to the new to the VMware documentation toolchain, you want to shorten the time to production and import for a large set of graphics (50+)
- As an author, you want to clearly define your requirements by providing a draft to the designer team, accelerating the graphic completion with fewer review rounds and mistakes.
We will present how the collaboration between a technical writer and a graphic designer can work more efficiently, how to work in Visio or PowerPoint to create graphic request drafts, how authors can shorten the graphics production time by up to 30%, when a full self-service is possible for content and many more cases.

Savvina Mitrova is a graphic designer in VMware. She has a B.A. in Graphic Design and has worked as a graphic and web designer since 2009, in Greece and Bulgaria. Her favorite quote in the aspect of design is “Less is More”.
