The Many Hats of a Technical Communicator

The technical communication field continues to evolve rapidly and those who work in it are faced with a growing list of responsibilities that they must be prepared to handle. The 2019 Summer IDEAS online conference will offer a comprehensive cross section of what the technical communication discipline has become and is becoming. CIDM seeks new presentations on the skills now required to meet the expanding information demands and expectations of our customers. These presentations might cover topics such as:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Chatbots
  • Augmented or virtual reality
  • Video production
  • Taxonomy development
  • User experience design
  • Social media strategies
  • Web site management
  • Dynamic publishing
  • Technology development

We seek real-life examples of exceptional content being developed in these areas, with solid take-aways for attendees – tips for expanding and developing their skills as technical communicators making them more valuable to their employers and opening doors for new opportunities within their organizations. Although we recognize that some items on this list may require eventual new tool acquisition, presentations should focus on the competencies that individuals can develop and acquire whether or not they currently have those tools; they are not a platform for selling product.

We are looking for one-hour sessions that can be effectively delivered in our online format.
We are trying to complete the program mid-April and will be in touch with you very soon!
